Nokia Mobile App Competition

Mobile Monday Athens and Nokia, the official sponsor for the 16 January event, are running a mobile applications competition. You’re all invited to attend, whether you just have a good idea or have actually started implementing it. Our competition is platform-agnostic, but – word to the wise – you’ll get a lot of help from Nokia and Microsoft if you decide to develop it on Windows.

If you want to join in, please fill our the form below (Note: please fill out ALL the fields or you won’t be able to qualify).
The deadline for submissions is January 9, i.e. one week before the event. We’ll then pick the six best ideas or apps and the final ruling will take place at the MoMo event. The six finalists will have a chance to pitch their idea or app before our panel of experts and we’ll determine the winners – winner gets a 1,500 Euro check to fund her/his app/idea and a Lumia 800 phone, while the two runner ups each receive a brand-new Lumia 800 phone. Winners will also receive help in development and promotion.

The purpose will be to help developers start getting into a more business mindset when talking about applications.

Criteria

1. What problem does the app solve? How does it make the world a better place? (1= commodity, … 5=world changing)

2. Who is this app targeted to? Who is going to pay for the app? Why is your app cheaper/faster/better than the competitors? (1=doesn’t understand market, … 5= perfectly targeted and positioned)

3. Why is your team the right team to build and market this app? (1=poor and partial team, … 5 = perfect combination of background and skills)

4. How is your app going to stand out? (social media and ads just won’t cut it) (1= app won’t make it, … 5 = very clever marketing strategy)

There will be 3 winners with the following prizes:

First: 1500 Euros to fund the app+1 Nokia Lumia 800

Second and Third:  1 Nokia Lumia 800 each

Winners’ applications will also receive training and technical support – offered by Microsoft AND promotion in various media by Nokia. These can be social media, own media, inclusion in banners and in Nokia campaigns.

Process:

- Competition is open to all – from ideas to published apps

- All criteria points must be addressed in presentation

- Submissions are in powerpoint and converted to PDF

- Submission deadline Monday 9th of January, 2012

- App founders must present their idea on MoMo day, 16 Jan.2012 8:00 p.m.

- The founders pitch for 3 mins strictly. They will also have to respond to questions, after their pitch, for 5 mins.

- Founders will stand on stage and can use any presentation they want for their pitch.

- Judges mark app pitches across the 4 criteria (see above)

 

Judging Committee

1. Two representatives from Nokia. Management and Marketing.

2. One representative from Microsoft.

3. Angel investor from the UK.
